On February 21, the Trinity Hall community ventured into New York City for an unforgettable experience at the Broadway production of "The Lion King." Students from all grade levels, accompanied by faculty members, had the exciting opportunity to go on this trip. More than fifty students went along for the experience.
After the school day ended, students and staff boarded the bus and headed to New York City. Upon arriving at the Minskoff Theatre, students were greeted with "The Lion King"-themed gift bags and made their way to their seats in the orchestra section. The show kicked off at 7 p.m. with the iconic “Circle of Life” performance, which featured performers surrounding the audience as “animals” came to life.
Despite being one of the longest running shows on Broadway, with the first production in 1997, "The Lion King" is still widely successful and never fails to dazzle the audience. This can be credited to its visual spectacle, creative staging, renowned music, elaborate costumes and unique use of puppetry to bring the story to life on stage. Maeve Devane ‘26 commented on her first experience at a Broadway show, "The show was simba-ly amazing! We had so much fun and it allowed us to see what a career in the arts is like."
After the curtain closed, the Trinity Hall community was fortunate enough to participate in an exclusive question and answer session with cast members. The cast offered insight on what a career within theater entails and spoke of their personal experiences within the field. Actors and orchestrators shared valuable advice and expressed a passion for the arts in a way that was inspiring to girls from Trinity Hall.
Ryan Rawlins, ‘25 shared, “Getting to go see 'The Lion King' on Broadway was an incredible experience. Not only were the sets, costumes, and songs phenomenal, but we also got to have a face-to-face conversation with many of the people involved in the show. My favorite part was learning all about the instrumental aspects of the play from the pit's conductor herself. As someone who is heavily involved in the Trinity Hall Pit Band, it was so cool getting to learn more about how it all works from someone whose entire career is centered around it. It was such a fun night!”
To end the night, students and chaperones were invited onto the stage for an up-close look at production. The night was a huge success, leaving girls excited for future theatrical activities.
Trinity Hall expresses a special thank you to Mr. Desimini, father of Olivia Desimini ‘27, who helped make this magical experience possible for students and staff. Thank you to everyone at the Minskoff Theatre and the cast and crew of "The Lion King" who also helped make this night so special.
