Anticipating the Winter Sports Season | Monarch Media

With the holiday season quickly approaching, winter sports are right around the corner. Trinity Hall athletes are ready to kick off the winter season for four sports: basketball, ice hockey, swimming, and winter track. Fan days are already being planned as students, faculty, staff, and family anticipate showing their support for Trinity Hall athletics. Put on your orange and blue and come cheer on your fellow Monarchs this winter season!

The Monarchs basketball team is ready to make their mark this 2024-2025 season. After graduating two starters, Nina Emnace ‘24 and Siobhan Stapleton ‘24, the remaining three returning starters (Grace Feeney ‘26, Whitney Hobson ‘26, and Lilly Riggi ‘25) have been working harder than ever with the team this pre-season to continue building the program Emnace and Stapleton created. Head coach Matthew McCarthy, assistant coach Bob O’Brien, and JV coach Liz Krayl are anticipating the start of the season. Coach McCarthy states what he is most looking forward to this basketball season: “I love the beginning of every season. There is so much hope and optimism. What excites me most for the upcoming season is the unexpected. Even though we have so many returning players, we will have a completely different look than the past couple years. I’m looking forward to seeing who grows into which roles.” The Monarchs are returning this season after being two-time division champs with a 17-9 record in the 2023-2024 season. Last season, the team advanced to the Shore Conference semifinals for the first time in school history, making significant strides to furthering their reputation as a major threat to other Shore teams. The Monarchs are coming back ready to prove their recognition again this season, hoping to make it even better than the last.

The Monarchs ice hockey team is one of the only girls ice hockey teams in the state. These athletes are required to travel far for most of their away games, showing the true dedication and commitment of the Trinity Hall ice hockey players. Additionally, their early morning practices are yet another sign of their unwavering diligence to this program. Four-year varsity ice hockey player Bridie Fitzgerald ‘25 states what she is looking forward to this upcoming ice hockey season: “We are so excited for this season! We lost a big class last year and are excited to welcome new players to the team for an awesome season!” Coming off of a 11-8-2 record, the ice hockey team, led by their head coach, Frankie Francese, is once again ready to show everyone who they are.

The impressive Trinity Hall swim team returns with multiple rings on their fingers. The two-time Shore Conference and division champs are back after an unbelievable season. Senior captain and 2023-2024 Shore Conference swimmer of the year, Maxine Camillone ‘25 expresses her anticipation for the upcoming swim season: “I am so beyond excited to see what the team can accomplish this year. Coach Brian is the most enthusiastic person I have ever met, and with his energy and our team's perseverance and strength, I believe we will have a very successful season!” The Monarchs swim team, led by head coach Brian Retterer, is looking to again return multiple titles and awards to the walls of Trinity Hall.

Finally, the winter track team consists of a variety of sprinters, distance runners, hurdlers, and field eventers. The team will be welcoming their new head coach this season, Zakaria (Zak) Rochdi. Not only will Rochdi be coaching winter track, but he will coach spring track as well. He has notable experience in the realm of running and will help each individual achieve personal goals, all while contributing to the awesome team culture in which he will soon be part. Senior Bridget Kennedy ‘25 expresses her eagerness for the upcoming season, “I am excited for winter track because I can’t wait to bond with my teammates at our long meets at the Toms River Bubble.” Winter track athletes can anticipate a season filled with competition, team bonding, and drive!
