The Community Life Council’s annual semi-formal dance was successful yet again. On October 25, Trinity Hall students gathered on the dance floor for a night filled with fun. Held in the Commons, which was transformed into a spooky scene, students spent the night singing and dancing with their peers to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Freshman class president Sarina Derosa ‘28 stated, “Semi was a great bonding experience for the grades, and it was a fun out-of-school activity to meet the rest of your grade and upper class!”
Due to construction on campus, this year’s semi-formal was only offered to freshmen and sophomores, unlike in years past where all four grades were included. Although this was a change from previous years, freshmen and sophomores filled the Commons for a night filled with music, dancing and fun. They were able to forge a strong bond between the grades.
While “Spooky Semi” was an enjoyable night for the freshmen and sophomores, the planning process took a lot of time and effort to organize. Community Life Council Chair Caroline Jacobi ‘25 stated, “First, we had to figure out if we would be able to accommodate all four of the grades because of the construction going on outside where the dance would normally take place. Ms. Sobieski and I made the decision that it would be best to hold the dance inside, limiting it to the freshmen and sophomores. This was obviously disappointing for the juniors and seniors because it went against the normal tradition of an all-school dance, but I was happy with the outcome of the night, and it looked like everyone had a great time!”
The obstacles the Community Life Council had to overcome while planning this event show the dedication and perseverance they had during the process. Although the dance was only extended to underclasswomen this year, Spooky Semi was a great opportunity for the freshmen and sophomores to expand their friendships, engage with classmates, and enjoy pre-Halloween festivities. Looking ahead, the Community Life Council intends to plan more events similar to the atmosphere of Spooky Semi for all grades to come together and enjoy.
