Ninth Graders Envision Success in 2021 with One Inspiring Word

What word will inspire you to "Make it Happen" in 2021?

Ninth graders in Theology I began a unit on prayer by reflecting on the lessons they learned from 2020 and focusing on their goals for 2021. Through guided questions, meditation and journaling exercises, Theology Teacher Janet Drudy led the students on a journey towards identifying "One Inspiring Word" to hold onto as they embarked on the New Year.

"The word has the potential to be transformational for them in any area of their life," said Mrs. Drudy.

Sarah DeMaria '24 said choosing "gratitude" came naturally to her. "Throughout my life, God, the Church, my family and the schools I have attended, including Trinity Hall, all have taught me the importance of living a life filled with gratitude," she said. "Sharing gratitude connects me with God and other people. Expressing gratitude by simply saying 'thanks' or being appreciative brings me closer to fulfilling God’s purpose for me. Each new day brings me the opportunity to praise God and share my love with others by either saying or displaying gratitude."

The students created a mini poster illustrating their chosen word. They listed their goals and dreams at the top and included a vision board of their imagined accomplishments at the bottom. To complete the assignment, the ninth graders presented their posters to their classmates, giving our newest Monarchs the opportunity to continue to learn about each other.

"I learned a lot about [my classmates'] characters and values through each of their word selections," shared Sarah. "I further learned that each of us here at Trinity Hall is a special, unique individual, but that most of our core values are quite similar and unite us collectively."

The "One Inspiring Word" posters are now on display in Mrs. Drudy's classroom as daily reminders for the Class of 2024 to continue to "Make it Happen" this year.
